Ron Campbel was born and raised in west Toledo attending Whitmer High School. Whitmer was and still is one of the leading technical high schools in the state of Ohio. At Whitmer Ron was first exposed to the lathe turning a small bowl and on the metal lathe a tap wrench
Upon retirement Ron bought a small lathe, small as he out grew it within the first year. Attending a class at John C Campbell his interest were peaked. This was a class on turning burls and hollow forms. Ron at that point had the addiction. At Campbell he turned his first Recovered Ruins it appeared in the second ArtPrize competition in Grand Rapids MI.
During his first year of turning he was recruited by a local manufacturing company to test woodturning tools. He was then invited to turn on the vendor floor demoing the use of the tools. Ron has continued to demo at the last 10 AAW International Symposiums on the vendor floor.\u00a0 2019 Ron was awarded one of the highest honors at the international symposium the AAW Pop Award of Excellence a once in a lifetime award.<\/p>\n

Ron continues to teach around the country some of the techniques, shapes and forms that have made him an outstanding turner.<\/p>\n

Wood the most wonderful medium to work in. Knowing little of what it will look like beneath the bark is part of the mystery of what the result maybe.<\/p>\n
